Meek Mill Helps Philadelphia’s Kids Prepare For Back-To-School Rush With Supplies

News

Meek Mill is assisting his hometown’s kids as they prepare to hit the books this fall. The Philadelphia native donated 6,000 backpacks equipped with only the necessary school supplies that the young pupils will need. Twelve public schools, from elementary to high school, will receive the items that include pencils, notebooks, sharpeners and more, TMZ reports.

“Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for their kids,” the 31-year-old rapper said to the entertainment website. “Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies.” Partners also include PUMA, United Legwear, Fanatics, and Milano Di Rouge.

On the list of schools, the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper paid a surprise visit to his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary, Complex notes. For the city’s school superintendent, Dr. William R. Hite believes this gesture was the perfect way to “kick off the new school year.”
