Serena Williams’ U.S. Open Return Honored In New Nike Video

Serena Williams is featured in Nike’s latest ad campaign for the 2018 U.S. Open.

ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell took to Twitter Monday (Aug. 27) to share an exclusive first look at the minute-long advertisement, which features a nine-year-old Williams training with her father, Richard.

Taking viewers back to 1991, the video begins with Williams and her father on a local tennis court working toward the goal of eventually qualifying for the U.S. Open.

“This is you at the U.S. Open. This is you,” her father and tennis coach confidently say before Williams begins a serve. Throwing the ball up in the air, the video then cuts to a more recent follow through by Serena at the 2017 U.S. Open.

The rest of the video follows a continuous pattern of  Williams’ father narrating her every move as the tennis prodigy seems to execute his advice in real time. Cutting between the at-home clip and tournament past, the awe-inspiring video demonstrates Serena’s consistent grace, focus, strength and success as a professional tennis player.

“You talk just like you want to win it. Just like you’re at the U.S. open” her father says once again before the screen blackens to reveal a Williams-inspired “it’s only crazy until you do it” twist on Nike’s OG slogan.

Serena Williams will compete for her 24th grand slam title at this year’s U.S. Open. The 2018 U.S. Open will begin on Monday (Aug. 27) and conclude on Sunday (Sept. 9).
