YG Donates $150K To Girl Code LA: “I Respect The G Code”
YG put his money where his mouth is and donated $150,000 to Girl Code LA to help young female coders gain experience in the ever-changing technological world.
According to Billboard, the West Coast emcee, who’s gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated album Stay Dangerous, notes that gender bias plays a huge role in what opportunities, if any, are given to girls. With his donation, he hopes to lessen that gap.
“This leads to influence future decisions within their field, creating smaller opportunities for diversity. With my donation, I hope they’ll be able to expand their reach of future female coders and programmers. I want to make sure I’m doing my part, I got a daughter and I respect the G Code.”
YG also gave students free Beats By Dre headphones and discussed taking non-traditional career paths that can also lead to success.
Girl Code LA was founded by Dez White. Her goal was to create an initiative, which helped young girls become competitive in business, software engineering, and computer science. GirlCodeLA helps participants get their feet wet in several career fields through hands-on training, seminars, and classes.
First Lebron opens up a school, then Derrick Rose sets up a scholarship fund for future college students and now YG is helping young female coders. Good job, gentlemen.
