Beyonce And JAY-Z Surprise Arizona Teen With $100,000 Scholarship On OTR II Tour
The Carters have made it their mission to inspire young adults to attend college. As part of their initiative, the couple announced they would be giving over $1 million in scholarships to students chosen by their local Boys and Girls Club Of America.
On Wednesday night (Sept. 19) $100,000 was given to Arizona teen Mikayla Lowry, who was one of the 19 Boys and Girls Club students who attended the concert for free.
The scholarship's winner was announced by DJ Khaled. "They said my name and I was like, 'WHAT?," said Lowry, who had a 3.7 GPA and an interest in marine biology.
The Trevor Browne High School senior is one of 11 lucky students who will receive $100,000 from Jay-Z and Beyonce during their OTR II Tour in Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Arlington, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Seattle. Which lucky student will be next?
This is just one of many events that have taken place during the tour. Beyonce recently reunited with former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett, and according to Billboard, the On The Run Tour has surpassed $150 million earned and continues to grow as the tour progresses.
