Colin Kaepernick, Serena Williams, LeBron James Appear In Nike ‘Just Do It’ Commercial

For “Just Do It”‘s 30th anniversary, Nike has been pulling out all the stops to commemorate the iconic slogan. The company’s celebratory campaign has been applauded and also lambasted, due to their use of NFL free agent and civil rights champion Colin Kaepernick in an advertisement.

Kaepernick, who made waves for his decision to kneel during the National Anthem while he was in the league in silent protest of police brutality, appears alongside Serena Williams, LeBron James and more sports stars for Nike’s latest commercial for the campaign.

“What non-believers fail to understand is that calling a dream ‘crazy’ is not an insult, it’s a compliment” Kaep says in the commercial, as several athletes of different ages, races, genders and ability are highlighted in the background. “Don’t believe you have to be like anybody to be somebody.”

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s advertisement was revealed on Monday (Sept. 3). A black-and-white photo with the words “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” are emblazoned across his face. Fervent detractors of Kaepernick’s Anthem actions have been going to extreme measures in order to protest Nike. Some have burned their Nike products, some have cut out the legendary swoosh. However, the company continues to receive support for their choice to include Kaepernick from several other corners of the Internet.
