Dallas Police Officer Enters Wrong Apartment, Shoots And Kills Man Inside

News

The family of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean is grieving after he was shot and killed by a police officer in Dallas who believed he was an intruder when actually, she entered the wrong apartment.

“He did no one any wrong,” the victim’s mother Allie Jean told NBC News over-the-phone. She lives in St. Lucia. “Somebody has to be crazy not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment. He’s a bachelor. Things are different inside…And if you try your key and it doesn’t work, that should make you realize you’re at the wrong apartment. Every door for each apartment is also numbered.”

According to NBC News, “Dallas police in a statement said that preliminary information suggests the officer involved called for help, and told responding officers that “she entered the victim’s apartment believing that it was her own.” The officer has not been identified, and she is being placed on administrative leave as the investigation is conducted.

Jean graduated from Harding University in 2016, and he is remembered by classmates as a friendly, “all around great person” who always had a smile on his face.

“We would talk about everything, about politics,” said Ms. Jean of her son, whom she would call every day. “Botham loved everyone, and everyone loved him.”
