After Nike unleashed their newest poignant ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick on Labor Day, the internet has displayed a varied consensus. While many have supported the brand’s woke campaign like Lebron James, others have been disgruntled about its message and even threatened the brand with boycotts. Unsurprisingly, President Donald Trump falls into the group of people who do not approve.
POTUS hopped on Twitter and expressed his sentiments on the NFL, the Nike boycotts and more. “Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts,” he tweeted. “I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!”
Despite all of the backlash, there is no denying the campaign in beautiful, yet powerful. The message behind it means more than anything negative as it simply serves as pure inspiration. In the campaign’s commercial, various images of notable athletes appear as Kaepernick narrates the different scenes.
“People say your dreams are crazy. If they laugh at what you think you can do, good,” says Kaepernick. “Stay that way. Because what non-believers fail to understand is that calling a dream crazy is not an insult, it’s a compliment.
“Don’t picture yourself wearing OBJ’s jersey, picture OBJ wearing yours. Don’t settle for homecoming queen or linebacker, do both. Lose 120 pounds and become an Ironman, after beating a brain tumor,” he continued.
