Kendrick Lamar Pays Tribute To Mac Miller, Commends His Energy
The music world is still feeling the aftershocks from the unexpected passing of Mac Miller, who died from a suspected overdose last week at the age of 26. Memorials have poured in for the Swimming musician, finding everyone from Chance The Rapper to J. Cole remembering the young star who we lost far too soon.
For Complex’s show Open Late with Peter Rosenberg, more music stars dialed in to send their condolences. Kendrick Lamar was one of the rappers who sent in a video message, where he fondly remembered Miller for his energy.
“No matter what he was going through, he didn’t make you feel sorry for him,” he said in the video. “Always kept a smile on his face because he wanted you to smile too. It’s just something I always loved. He gave you that energy. It wasn’t no ‘misery loves company’ with it. You showed a smile, you’d get a smile right back. He made you feel good…Mac Miller, love ya.”
The duo worked together on numerous occasions in the past. K. Dot was featured in Mac’s songs “Fight The Feeling” and “God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty” from Macadelic and The Divine Feminine, respectively. Additionally, the two were on DJ Kay Slay’s 2017 track “Cold Summer.”
