Music News

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V album is finally free. After years and years of being mixed up in legal and family disputes, Lil Wayne released his long-awaited project on Friday (Sept. 21).

The album features 24 tracks and guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Mack Maine, Nivea, Travis Scott, Ashanti, and late artist XXXTentacion. Tunechi’s daughter, Reginae Carter is also listed as a feature on the project.

Tha Carter V has been a long time in the making. Fans began buzzing about the project’s suspected release on social media for the last couple of weeks, but the anticipation has been building up over several years.

As you may remember, Lil Wayne previously accused Cash Money mogul Birdman of keeping his album hostage. He later filed a $51 million lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money, alleging they were withholding Tha Carter V. In 2014, Wayne tweeted: “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity Again,I am truly sorry and I don’t blame ya if ya fed up with waiting 4 me & this album.”

The two most recently squashed the beef publicly, with Birdman apologizing to Wayne at the Lil Weezyana Fest in Aug. 2018.

Tha Carter V serves has the fifth and possibly final installment of Weezy’s Carter series. Tha Carter IV was released in Aug. 2011.
