VIBE Vixen's Boss Talk Podcast: Parris Goebel, Versatile Boss At Your Service
"When I started to get more momentum, it's when I started to realize that I could really change the game."
VIBE Vixen's Boss Talk podcast amplifies the voices of women and she/her-identifying individuals in their respective industries as they discuss their journeys toward becoming the bosses we know today. From their demeanor and confidence and persevering through life’s pitfalls to make a name for themselves in their own way, being a boss is much more than 'just running sh*t.'
For the podcast's inaugural episode, multi-hyphenate Parris Goebel sat down with host and VIBE.com writer J'na Jefferson to detail her rise as a creative force to be reckoned with. Her keen visual eye and awe-inspiring work on the stage has caught the attention of musicians like Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Rihanna and more.
The 26-year-old New Zealander is well-known for her recognizable choreography, which has become popular thanks to her World Champion dance crews such as the Royal Family, ReQuest, and Sorority, whose members train at Goebel's studio The Palace.
"Out of everything, it's probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever done," she says of her studio, which she opened at the age of 17.
Goebel directed and choreographed Justin Bieber's "Sorry" music video, which is the seventh most-viewed video in YouTube history. Her stunning choreography and directorial sense went viral again this past summer, thanks to her work with Ciara for "Level Up," and she recently choreographed for Rihanna's Savage x Fenty show at New York Fashion Week. Aside from directing and choreographing, Goebel sings and acts, and released her autobiography, Young Queen, this past March.
In this episode, Goebel shares her creative inspiration as an artist and also discusses dropping out of school at 15, what success feels like to her, and the importance of bringing loved ones along for her journey.
"It's the most rewarding feeling to not only shine but shine with other people that you care about," she explains.
