Sen. Ted Cruz Is Upset Rep. Berto O’Rouke Blamed Police For Botham Jean’s Death
Sen. Ted Cruz is upset that Rep. Beto O’ Rourke (D-Texas) called for the termination of a Dallas police officer who murdered an unarmed black man after intruding into his home that she says she thought was hers.
While speaking with Houston’s Fox 26, Cruz said he wishes Rourke and the rest of the Democrats wouldn’t rush to conclusions and allow for due process to unearth further details of the fatal incident.
“It’s possible what happened was a horrifying and a horrific misunderstanding, or it may be something else,” Cruz,” said Sunday. (Sept. 16) “And that’s why we have a legal justice system, to actually learn what the facts are and learn what happened. I wish Beto O’Rourke and Democrats weren’t so quick to always blame the police officer, always attack the police officer.”
O’Rourke, who is running for a seat in the Senate and made headlines after defending NFL players’ right to kneel during the National Anthem, reportedly said Amber Guyger should be fired for shooting 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean.
“I don’t understand, given the actions, how anyone can come to any other conclusion,” Rourke said to reporters.
Cruz admitted that Guyger, who is now free on bail, was wrong, but thinks she should be judged by the law before anyone makes a declaration about her duties as a cop.
“She may have been in the wrong. She’s facing legal proceedings and if a jury of her peers concludes that she behaved wrongly, then she’ll face the consequences,” Cruz said. “But I don’t think we should jump to conclusions. It may have been just a horrific understanding with horrifying consequences.”
