50 Cent Lands $150 Million Multi-Series Deal With Starz
"Get the strap" has turned into "Get the bag" for Curtis Jackson.
Variety reports Mr. Jackson's new deal with the network will include a three-series commitment through his G-Unit Film and Television company. He'll also have a hefty budget work as much as $150 million. The budget also includes resources for the current hit drama, Power.
In a press release, Jackson shared his excitement over the deal while dropping his unique catchphrase, "Get The Strap."
“When I sat down with Chris [Albrecht, Starz CEO] and walked him through my plans for G-Unit Film & Television going forward, he let me know I was essentially requesting the biggest deal in premium cable history,” Jackson said. “I am excited to announce that we’ve made that partnership between myself, G-Unit Film & Television and Starz/Lionsgate and we will continue our proven track record of breaking records and delivering unique content for audiences around the world … Get The Strap.”
Two of the series have already been announced. Black Family Mafia is inspired by street legend Demetrius ‘Big Meech’ Flenory and work within in the music industry. Vanguard bares a similar tone to Power with the main character returning home to Long Beach following his Navy tours to defend his family from a drug cartel.
Albrecht also shared in a statement his thoughts on the now prolonged work relationship with 50 Cent.
“Both on screen and off, Curtis has proven that he can deliver content that our viewers want to watch. He is the real deal, and we have given him a real deal, with what I believe to be among the most significant deals to date for an Executive Producer in premium television," he said. "We’re pleased to expand our relationship and consider this the beginning of many new and exciting ventures to come.”
50 hasn't commented directly on his deal but he has posted many of his film credits to Instagram like Get Rich or Die Tryin, Twelve, Fire With Fire, Den of Thieves and Southpaw.
