Ben & Jerry’s Introduces Anti-Trump Ice Cream Flavor “Pecan Resist”
A week ahead of the midterm elections, Ben & Jerry’s is taking a major political step. The ice cream company is introducing a new anti-Trump flavor called “Pecan Resist,” which voters can order after heading to the polls next month.
The new flavor consists of chocolate ice cream with white and dark chocolate chunks, almond-covered fudge, walnuts, and pecans. The packaging is even more progressive, featuring three women of color holding up a “Resist” sign.
“This flavor supports groups creating a more just and equitable nation for us all, and who are fighting President Trump’s regressive agenda,” the company said in a new statement.
The company also told TMZ that it “could not be silent” as the president continued to promote beliefs of hatred and inequality. Specifically, Ben & Jerry’s criticized Trump’s campaign against the LGBTQ+ community and environmental issues. Most recently, reports claimed the president was considering erasing transgender people as an identity.
The company suggested that it is considering handing out the sweets to voters at select polling sights, although it has not been confirmed. The company has already partnered with several liberal organizations to assist with the rollout of the new product.
This isn’t Ben & Jerry’s first move to combat poor politics or social inequality. In 2016, the brand made a bold move by advocating for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Midterm elections kick off on Nov. 6.
