Chance The Rapper Holding Press Conference Regarding Chicago Mayoral Election

News

Could Chance The Rapper be running for mayor of Chicago? That’s what many Internet folks are thinking after the Coloring Book musician posted a flyer on Twitter about a press conference he’d be holding tomorrow.

The flyer said that the Chi-Town celebrity would be hosting a press conference “regarding Chicago’s mayoral election” at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The flyer follows a cryptic tweet featuring a line from his 2015 song “Somewhere In Paradise,” which read “I’m thinkin’ maybe I should.” The lyrics preceding the aforementioned words are “they screamin’ ‘Chano For Mayor.'”

This wouldn’t be something too far-fetched, as the newly-engaged Grammy winner has been an earnest rider for his city and his people for quite some time now. He has his own non-profit organization SocialWorks, which has raised millions of dollars for Chicago’s arts programs.

He’s also been vocal about his feelings regarding current mayor of the Illinois city, Rahm Emanuel. In 2017, he spoke during a city hall meeting regarding Emanuel’s then-proposed $95 million police academy.

“There’s a lot of ways to transform the city that don’t have anything to do with police training,” he said. Passionate about the youth, the 25-year-old said that allocating money towards new school buildings and mental health facilities would have served the city better.
