Ella Mai Performs “Trip” On ‘The Tonight Show’
Ella Mai doesn't trip over this performance.
Performing her chart-climbing single "Trip," Mai delivers a genuine and flawless performance to the late-night show. Jaded by the love she's receiving, the piano-laden track finds Ella in a vulnerable state.
Recently, the London-born vocalist was featured on the latest episode of Pepsi's The Sound Drop series, where she spoke a bit on the inspiration behind the track.
"I wanted to write about something that women don't approach that much, especially with R&B music," says Mai. "It's always that the woman has been done wrong. A woman can be wrong as well. It's my bad. My bad for tripping on you."
In her execution of R&B music, the 23-year-old has always flipped the script. Speaking earnestly on love and all the emotions that come with it, Mai brings a refreshing new perspective to the table.
Released promotionally ahead of her debut album, "Trip" will stand as the 13th track on Mai's first full-length project, Ella Mai.
Ella Mai drops everywhere Friday (Oct. 12). In the meantime, check out "Trip" up top.
