Ferguson activist, Melissa McKinnies is claiming that her son was murdered by lynching. Twenty-four-year-old Danye Jones was reportedly found dead hanging from a tree on Oct. 17.

McKinnies shared graphic images (See graphic photos here) of her son hanging from a tree by what appears to be a sheet of some sort on Facebook. While she later deleted the photos, they have since been circulating social media.

According to various sources, Jones’ death has been ruled a suicide by authorities, although no credible news station or representative can confirm.

McKinnies is a former member of the Ferguson grassroots activist group Lost Voices. She previously participated in the protests for Michael Brown, who was killed by a police officer in Aug. 2014.

Jones death follows those of three other activists in Ferguson that have occurred since 2014. DeAndre Joshua was found dead in his car with two gunshot wounds to the head the night of the Ferguson verdict in 2014. Darren Seals was found dead two years later with two gunshot wounds to the head in his car.

In 2017, Edward Crawford, the activist who went viral after being photographed throwing a tear gas canister back at police was also found dead in his car. Police claimed Crawford shot himself in the backseat of his car either in an attempted suicide or by accident. But following Crawford’s death, Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal stated on Twitter that a serial murderer was possibly targeting Ferguson activists.
