Kanye West Pays Off Amara Enyia’s Past Mayoral Campaign Fines

Kanye West continues to make his way onto the political scene with his latest gesture. According to The Chicago Tribune, West donated $73,540 to mayoral hopeful Amara Enyia’s campaign.

The funds directly wiped out the penalties Enyia faced with the Illinois State Board of Elections. According to the news site, Enyia’s previous debt accrued after she removed her bid from the mayoral race in 2015, but failed to discontinue her “campaign account.” The politician also faced fines for not reporting her quarterly finances. With West’s given sum, Enyia met the state’s Dec. 20 deadline to find a resolution to the matter.

“The Amara Enyia campaign thanks Chicago native, Kanye West, for his generous action. Amara’s campaign is energizing people around the city with bold ideas and solutions that move Chicago forward,” a statement to the Tribune reads. “We are excited to engage people of all walks of life as we focus our efforts on getting on the ballot.”

The news arrives a few days after Chance the Rapper announced his endorsement of Enyia’s mayoral candidacy. During a press conference, the “No Problem” rapper said Enyia’s views aligned with his beliefs.

The former journalist-turned-lawyer has a documented history with education policies and economic literacy. She plans to take Chicago to the “next level” if she were to be elected and replace current Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
