Kendall Jenner And 'Vogue' Catch Heat For Kinky Hair Photoshoot

Thoughts?

Vogue Magazine is apologizing after backlash garnered from their recent photoshoot featuring Kendall Jenner sporting a teased hairstyle that many believe is similar to an afro. The pictures are to be featured in the fashion publication's November issue.

"The image is meant to be an update of the romantic Edwardian/Gibson Girl hair which suits the period feel of the Brock Collection, and also the big hair of the '60s and the early '70s, that puffed-out, teased-out look of those eras," says Vogue in a statement. "We apologize if it came across differently than intended, and we certainly did not mean to offend anyone by it."

"Jenner, 22, models the hairstyle with a floral Brock Collection dress in a November story celebrating the 15th anniversary of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund," writes Page Six. The photos were shot by Mikael Jansson, and nearly right away, Vogue's Instagram comments were flooded with anger.

"They stay tryna turn white women into black women," one comment read. "They rather pretend we don’t exist then give us credit. Ugh." However, there were also messages of support from many social media users that stated that the outrage was more of an over-exaggeration.

"This is clearly curly hair, natural in most countries in the world so everyone needs to chill out," a commenter wrote. "And even if it was Afro, what is the actual problem?"

The socialite and member of the Kardashian family is not a stranger to controversy. Jenner has been accused of cultural appropriation in the past; in 2017, she and her sister Kylie were accused of appropriating Latinx culture for a photo shoot promoting their fashion line.

Fifteen years and 150 finalists later, the @CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize has created global stars, local heroes, a must-watch New York Fashion Week, and, most important, a true sense of community among designers of all ages and backgrounds—all with differing aesthetic and commercial aspirations—who communicate, collaborate, and essentially care for one another through the fun and not-so-fun times. Laura Vassar Brock—one of the founders of 2016 #CVFF winner Brock Collection—says, “We spoke to a few friends who had gone through it, and they all said the same thing: that the Fashion Fund is a life-changing experience. And indeed it was!” Tap the link in our bio to learn more. Photographed by @mikaeljansson, styled by @tonnegood, Vogue, November 2018

White Teen Girl Arrested For Plotting Mass Shooting At Black Church

Police in Georgia have put a stop to what could've been another tragic mass shooting at a predominantly black church.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports a 16-year-old girl was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder after her plan to attack the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church was revealed. Gainsville Police shared in a news released how they teamed up with Gainesville City School officials to prevent the tragedy.

Gainesville High school resource officers were notified on Friday (Nov. 15) about the white minor's plans by school administrators. Students claimed the teen wrote a plan in her notebook to attack members of  Bethel AME Church based on the color of their skin.

“Our investigation indicated the church was targeted by the juvenile based on the racial demographics of the church members,” police Chief Jay Parrish said Tuesday (Nov. 19). “The church was immediately notified of the incident by Gainesville police to ensure the safety of our community and the current threat was under control.”

The teenager is now at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.

“This is an active investigation and a prime example of how strong relationships between the student body, school administration and law enforcement can intercept a potentially horrific incident,” Parrish said.

Carmelo Anthony Braces For "Next Chapter" With Portland Trail Blazers

Rocking a No. 00 jersey, Carmelo Anthony will have all eyes on him when he takes the court as a Portland Trail Blazer this evening (Nov. 19). The match-up will take place against the New Orleans Pelicans, not only continuing both teams' pursuit of a championship title, but also Anthony's return to form.

"Carmelo is an established star in this league that will provide a respected presence in our locker room and a skill set at a position of need on the floor," the Oregon team's president Neil Olshey said in a statement published by ESPN.

The news, which arrived earlier this month, has been a long time coming for the native New Yorker who consistently expressed his desire to play pro-basketball again. Previously, the 35-year-old played for the Houston Rockets before seeking a new home within the league. According to ESPN, it's been over a year since Anthony played in the NBA.

Anthony's family also wished him well on his journey per an Instagram post from Power co-star LaLa Anthony.

Roc Nation Denies Jay Z's "Disappointment" In Colin Kaepernick's NFL Workout

Everyone has an opinion on Colin Kaepernick's current strife with the NFL but Jay Z isn't one of them.

Several reports over the weekend indicated how the mogul felt "disappointed" in Kaepernick, whose audition for the NFL turned into a very messy sideshow. Kapernick changed the location of his workout in Atlanta, which was oddly scheduled 24 hours before Sunday Night Football. “I’m a little bit pessimistic because I’ve talked to all 32 teams,” Kaepernick’s agent Jeff Nalley told CBS. “I’ve reached out to them recently, and none of them have had any interest. I’ll tell you this: No team asked for this workout. The league office asked for this workout.”

The workout was scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. but was moved from the Falcons' practice facility to Charles R. Drew High School in Riverdale by Kaepernick. It's not known when the workout was initially planned but it has happened just a few weeks after the NFL and Jay Z suffered backlash and criticism for their philanthropic partnership. The workout was reportedly intended to showcase Kapernick's abilities to showcase his skills to teams, showing he has the skills and mindset to play again.

Despite no one asking for the workout, it still happened with the presence of a waiver that included murky language that reportedly blocks the activist from taking legal action against the league in regard to his claims of collusion. Kaepernick previously filed an NFL Players Association grievance, calling out the league's collusion against him for protesting during the National Anthem. NBC Sports Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed the ins and outs of the waiver which was also given Kaepernick's team just days before the workout.

All of this leads to Sunday's reports that Kaepernick supporter and Roc Nation honcho Jay Z was "disappointed with Colin's actions and believes he turned a legitimate workout into a publicity stunt." Oddly enough, the same quote was reported by Sports Illustrated, TMZ and XXL as original reporting (which is a mystery in itself). Nearly 24 hours later, Roc Nation released a statement by way of Twitter that said, "A source at Roc Nation tells us JAY-Z (@S_C_) hasn’t spoken to any sources."

In somewhat positive news, Kaepernick's workout tape was sent to all 32 teams despite him refusing to sign the mystery waiver. In a matter of days, the narrative quickly shifted from the NFL and Kaepernick to the Jay Z and Kaepernick, allowing the league to slide away from the nightmare they seemingly created.
