Khalid Shows Love For El Paso On New ‘Suncity’ EP
Khalid captivated the world with his break-out track “Location” and his debut album American Teen. Now, he has returned with his follow-up EP Suncity.
The 21-minute project features an excerpt from the day the 20-year-old singer/songwriter has gifted the keys to the city of El Paso, Texas in early September 2018. The 7-track playlist includes a brief instrumental interlude called “Salem’s Interlude” about fear and direction. “Saturday Nights” is a low tempo guitar-based ballad about being young and lost but finding your way through. The title track “Suncity” stands out as the EP’s midtempo track that brings a special latin flair in a bilingual collaboration track where Khalid sings in English and in Spanish with Empress Off. “Motions” and “Better” bring the extended play record’s themes of expressing adolescence, love, self-exploration full circle, as Khalid attempts speak to those who are experiencing similar things.
“More than anything in life right now I want growth. I want my music to grow and represent how I am growing up. Suncity is the start of a new era for me,” shared the contemporary R&B singer with Billboard. “This music poured out of me and I didn’t want to wait to share it. I wanted to be able to live in this moment with my fans and my friends and speak from the heart.”
