Megyn Kelly's Blackface Comments Put Morning Show In Jeopardy
Thanks to her ill-informed and insensitive comments about sporting blackface for Halloween, Megyn Kelly's NBC morning show Megan Kelly Today may be in jeopardy.
According to CNN, Kelly will not be in for today's show (Oct. 25), and her Friday shows are often pre-taped. However, a source close to the situation states that there's no telling when she will be back for her usual 9 a.m. slot.
"Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week," an NBC News spokeswoman stated. Kelly parted ways with her agency CAA, and she recently hired attorney Bryan Freedman. While she may not be participating in the Today Show, for the time being, she will likely still be helping with coverage of the midterm elections in two weeks.
"Kelly has been openly challenging the news division's management, including NBC News chair Andy Lack, for months," reports CNN, so the decision for her future fate may have been in motion before the comments were made.
"But what is racist?" Kelly said during a conversation about Halloween Tuesday (Oct. 23). "Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character." She later apologized for her comments, but many believed it was too little, too soon.
