Serena Williams Lip Syncs “I Touch Myself” For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
"I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world."
Serena Williams has partnered with the I Touch Myself Project for their 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. As part of her collaboration, the worldly singer is featured in a powerful, short clip where she stands nude against a black backdrop. Graciously covering herself with her hands, Williams sings a beautiful rendition of Divynyls' hit song, "I Touch Myself" before the text "Touch Yourself. A Breast Health Reminder" flashes across the screen.
In an Instagram post, Williams shared her ongoing support to the cause. "Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone," she admits, "but I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key - it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that.
The I Touch Myself Project was launched after the passing of Chrissy Amphlett of Divinyls in 2014. Losing her life to breast cancer and multiple sclerosis, Amphlett was able to leave a powerful message behind. With lyrics that unapologetically celebrates female sexuality, Amphlett was proud to create a song that would double as an anthem for breath health awareness and the importance of early detection.
