Tia Mowry And Loretta Devine To Star In New Comedy Series With All Black Writers
Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine will be starring in a new Netflix series titled, 'Family Reunion.'
Netflix, which is notably upping the ante when it comes to diverse shows and representation, is adding another series to their roster with Black Hollywood stars Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine. According to a recent report from Deadline (Oct. 17), the two actresses will be headlining Family Reunion, a multi-generation comedy series for the streaming network.
Family Reunion has been given a 20-episode order, and was created and executive produced by Meg DeLoatch (Fuller House, Eve) and directed by Eric Dean Seaton (Modern Family). Former Miami Dolphins player Anthony Alabi will also be co-starring in the series.
Penned entirely by black writers, the African-American family sitcom stars the former Sister, Sister actress as Cocoa McKellan, who is a free-spirited, fun and conscious mother from Seattle. Her former football player husband and their children travel to Georgia for the McKellan Family Reunion where they get to know a once-missing extended family member. Devine’s character plays the strict-but-loving M’Dear who is the helm of the family.
“We look forward to bringing families together to enjoy the hilarious and heartwarming stories of this multi-generational American family living together and discovering the importance of connecting with their roots,” said Melissa Cobb, VP of Kids and Family at Netflix.
“Meg DeLoatch has created a warm, funny and memorable extended family that we believe will resonate with audiences around the world and she has assembled an incredibly talented all-black writers room to authentically portray these characters and their journey.”
Loretta Devine is thankful this opportunity, saying, “I am so blessed to be part of this new and exciting moment in time that will touch and bring laughter, smiles, and joy to everyone who sees it." Will this show be your next binge watch?
