XXXTentacion Ineligible For Grammy’s Best New Artist Category

Music News

Despite posthumously winning two awards for his work recently, XXXTentacion is reportedly ineligible for a Best New Artist nomination for the 2019 Grammy Awards.

According to Hits Daily Double, and confirmed by other music sites, the slain musician’s release of his album 17 was five weeks too early for the start of this year’s eligibility timeframe. He would have been the first musician to posthumously be nominated for the honor. The site also reveals that Camila Cabello will also not be considered for a nomination because she rose to prominence with a group (Fifth Harmony).

A handful of musicians who were also left off of the consideration ballot “for one reason or another” include A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Ozuna, 6LACK, YoungBoy Never Broke Again,  21 Savage, Lil Xan, Nipsey Hussle, Tee Grizzley, BlocBoy JB and Famous Dex. However, there are four “Lil” artists who could garner nods due to meeting the eligibility guidelines- Lil Baby, Lil Peep, Lil Pump and Lil Skies.

The Grammys are also considering nominating H.E.R., Juice WRLD and Ella Mai. It was reported that Cardi B and Post Malone will not be nominated in this category for two different reasons. Cardi was nominated for two Grammys last year, which makes her ineligible, while Post Malone’s catalogue was determined to be past “new artist” status.
