XXXTentacion’s Mother Accepts AMA “Favorite Soul/R&B Album” Award For Late Rapper

XXXTentacion’s mother was at the American Music Awards to accept the award for “Favorite Soul/R&B Album” on her son’s behalf.

Visibly nervous, Cleopatra Bernard thanked her son’s fans Tuesday (Oct. 9) for voting. “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of my son,” she said. “I would like to thank the AMAs, his fans, and to everyone who made this possible. Thank you guys so much, I appreciate it.”

Born Jahseh Onfroy, the Florida rapper’s album 17 returned the Billboard charts and went platinum following the rapper’s passing this June. The 20-year-old was shot to death while leaving a motor dealership. While he was widely known for his polarizing behavior and alleged abuse of a former partner, his singles like “SAD!,” “Moonlight” and “Changes” have been hits after his death.

He also received posthumously the Best New Artist Award at the BET Hip-Hop Awards last week. Watch her emotional acceptance speech above.
