VIBE Vixen's Boss Talk Podcast: Bevy Smith Proves You Can Boss Up While Living Your Best Life
"Be focused on your career, but also make sure you're nurturing your personal life."
VIBE Vixen’s Boss Talk podcast amplifies the voices of women and she/her-identifying individuals in their respective industries as they discuss their journeys toward becoming the bosses we know today. From their demeanor and confidence and persevering through life’s pitfalls to make a name for themselves in their own way, being a boss is much more than ‘just running sh*t.’
This time around, television personality and radio host Bevy Smith sat down with host and VIBE.com writer J’na Jefferson to discuss her life-changing career shift.
Smith, who is known as being the co-host of Page Six TV and host of Bevelations on Sirius/XM's Radio Andy, started off as Senior Director of Luxury Advertising at Rolling Stone and fashion and beauty editor/director for VIBE Magazine. However, she had a “bevelation” of her own, and switched her career focus and passion.
‘I don't wanna be pigeonholed into any one thing," she said on the podcast. "I wanted to have the option of doing anything and everything... I quit my job to do whatever the f**k it is that I wanted to do."
Since the shift, Smith has branded herself as a no-holds-barred television personality and fashion aficionado, who is never afraid to be 100 perfect authentic. Not only has she used her voice to give her two-cents on some of the hottest topics in entertainment for over 20 years, she’s also been incredibly vocal in the realms of political and social justice, especially the latter as it pertains to sexual assault.
In this episode, Smith discussed her rise in the media industry, trying her hand and multiple endeavors, and the importance of inspiring young black women who envision themselves on television one day. Additionally, they discussed why it's necessary to have fun in addition to working on your craft and career.
"Yes, be focused on your career, but also make sure you're nurturing your personal life, whatever that looks like," Smith says. "I really lived, and I'm still living, I'm vibrant and I'm having a great time."
