Questlove Curates 300-Song Playlist For Michelle Obama's 'Becoming' Book Tour
More than being the dopest First Lady to ever do it, Michelle Obama has solidified herself as a distinguished author with her Becoming memoir, which sold more than 725,000 copies on the first day. Obama, in the midst of her book tour, has asked Questlove to curate soundtracks to take with her on the book's journey.
The Roots drummer has crafted a three-part saga on Spotify titled The Michelle Obama Musiaqualogy, each taking on the certain era in music. The playlists are classified by 1964-1979, 1980-1997, and 1997-2018. With each tracklist comprised of 100 songs, Ahmir Khalib Thompson has asked that the first two collections be played in order, while the last can be shuffled.
Featuring artists like Kendrick Lamar, JAY-Z, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, James Brown and more, the soundtrack speaks to the mother-of-two, her personal experiences, and evolution.

From listening to Stevie Wonder and @earthwindandfire growing up to @Beyonce and @JanelleMonae during my time in the White House, music has always been a defining part of who I've become. Thanks to my friend @Questlove for curating these amazing playlists! Check them out on @spotify and @pandora. #IAmBecoming
"Like a lot of people, I connect many of my memories with the songs and melodies I was listening to at the time," the former First Lady shared with Billboard. "From the jazz and Stevie Wonder of my childhood, to Prince and Earth, Wind & Fire as I came into my own as an adult, to Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, and so many others who provided the stirring backbeats of my time in the White House -- music has always been a defining part of who I've become."
Expressing gratitude, the 54-year-old is very thankful for Thompson's efforts. Hear the soundtracks below.
