Welcome Back: Buju Banton Announces Long Walk to Freedom Concert
Buju Banton has been released from prison, and is already getting back to work.
Banton and his team announced his Long Walk to Freedom concert, a 90-minute set that will take place on Mar. 16, 2019 in Kingston, Jamaica. While they're hoping to have special guests at the show, Banton will be the main performer.
According to Joseph “Joey Budafuco” Louis of Rockers Island Entertainment and XO Management, a portion of the proceeds from the show will go to the Buju Banton Foundation, and “[they] will align with nonprofits in each island, with part proceeds going to those (respective) organizations and Lend A Hand.” Lend A Hand assists the needs of at-risk children.
The artist spent nearly eight years in Georgia’s McRae Correctional Institution on drug trafficking charges. On social media, he wrote that he is looking forward to focusing on his craft.
"Having survived, I want to share the good news and strength of my music,” he wrote on Instagram. “I just want to continue making music, which I've devoted my life to.”
