A Dallas Bus Driver Purchased Christmas Gifts For Every Student On His Route
A Dallas bus driver this holiday season proved not all humans are the worst. According to local NBC affiliate, KXAS Curtis Jenkins was mistaken for Santa Claus by students when he gifted all 70 children on his bus route with gifts.
"Seeing those faces on the kids was more than anything I could ever do with the money,” Jenkins said.
The Lake Highlands Elementary School bus driver originally wanted to do a gift exchange, but it was his wife Shaneqia who pointed out the families may not be able to afford it. Jenkins then decided he'd buy gifts for students.
Jenkins said he set aside money from each paycheck to purchase the items, which included games, electronics, and even a bike.
“He’s always wanted to do something for the kids,” Shaneqia said.
The day before Christmas break, Jenkins presented the students with their gifts. One parent, so overcome with emotion, cried at the random act of kindness.
“It makes me feel like I belong and I mean something to this community,” Katrina Clift said, “Especially to the people who love my children.”
