Forever 21 Faces Backlash Over White Model Wearing 'Wakanda Forever' Holiday Sweater
The retailer has removed an image of a white model wearing a Black Panther themed Christmas Sweater from their site.
It's Ugly Christmas Sweater Season which means all of the corntastic sweaters with your favorite artists and cartoons will appear on shelves. One in particular was quickly removed from Forever 21's website after they featured a white model rocking a Black Panther-themed sweater with the popular saying, "Wakanda Forever."
The debauchery started on Tuesday (Dec. 18) when the retailer's Twitter account shared a photo of the
colonizer model in the sweater along with annoying paw print emojis. The sweater, priced at $34.90 was a bit too bright to begin with, but consumers were quickly thrown off at the entire presentation.
It also seems like the model is their go-to guy as he's displayed all over the site. While there was a perfectly able-bodied black male model also on the site, he was reduced to wearing a knockoff of knockoff sweaters that went on sale.
The image might've been taken from the website, but the internet never forgets. See the reactions below.
