Neil deGrasse Tyson Under Investigation For Sexual Misconduct
Neil deGrasse Tyson is being investigated by Fox and National Geographic Networks after two women have leveled sexual misconduct allegations against him.
According to the Associated Press, the two unidentified women say the 60-year-old astrophysicist behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner. In 2014, Tyson was host of Fox's show Cosmos, and a reboot of the show will appear on National Geographic in 2019.
In a statement, the producers of Cosmos released a statement about the handling of the investigation. "The credo at the heart of ‘Cosmos’ is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of ‘Cosmos’ can do no less in this situation.”
Tyson vehemently refutes the claims and in a lengthy statement wrote about the importance of evidence.
"In any claim, evidence matters. Evidence always matters. But what happens when it's just one person's word against another's, and the stories don't agree? That's when people tend to pass judgment on who is more credible than whom," wrote Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City.
A detailed investigation will reportedly be conducted. However, Fox and National Geographic revealed on Friday (11/30) the accusations were just brought to the company's attention and a review will take place.
