Frank Ocean Speaks On Variety Of Topics In Rare New Interview
Frank Ocean spoke to GQ for a new and rare interview. The Blonde musician spoke on a variety of topics with the magazine, including his cover of the classic "Moon River," his recent move to the Big Apple, politics and much more.
According to the 31-year-old, whose interview was conducted by his Blonded Radio co-hosts, he is enjoying his time living in New York City, primarily because he has a place to hang his head at night.
" I think it comes from living in hotels, but when I'm in L.A., I find myself in my car a lot.… Which is stress," he revealed. "In New York, it's the first time in a minute that I've had my own space that's not a hotel and not some rented home, where everything around me is mine, and that's been really cozy and comfortable this past year." He also said he enjoys getting to spend more time in the house, where he watches tons of news programs like MSNBC.
Ocean also said that his cover of "Moon River" was "random," since he heard the song as a recommendation. He enjoyed how the song sounded "small and beautiful and neat," and it is one of his favorite covers in his repertoire.
In regard to politics, Ocean is doing what he can to make sure his fans are engaged in the landscape. During November 2018's midterm elections, he made T-shirts to reward those residing in swing districts who could prove they voted.
"I was excited about the idea of incentivizing people to vote and to get excited about midterms, because people aren't usually excited about voting at midterms," he said. "Getting seven or eight thousand people who might not have otherwise voted to participate like that is a testament to what public figures can do or encourage with their voice. It feels responsible, especially at this time. Maybe also at many times prior, but it feels less like responsibility and more like a great opportunity that I had and still have."
