Baby's Body Found In Cooler Near Georgia Road
The story is still developing.
According to AJC, a baby's body has reportedly been found in a cooler on the side of a Georgia road in Troup County.
Authorities say the body was discovered Sunday afternoon (Jan. 6) after someone looked inside a cooler, which had been left near a woodline on Boy Scout Road off New Franklin Road. The light-blue cooler had watermelons printed along the fabric with a zipped top. When unsuspecting witnesses peaked inside, they were met with a shocking discovery: the body of a small child.
The Troup County sheriff's deputies reported to the scene around 3:20 p.m. local time. “Once on scene deputies and investigators discovered what appeared to be a deceased newborn child in a portable cooler bag,” the sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said in a news release.
The cooler is projected to have possibly been sitting roadside for a week. The child has yet to have been identified but an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday (Jan. 8). The medical examination will more than likely reveal the baby's identity as well as some insight into how the child died.
