It's Coming: Jordan Peele's 'Us' Will Open SXSW's Film Festival
This is the second time the annual Austin festival has opened their film festival with a horror film; last year, A Quiet Place starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt was the movie to kick off the festivities.
"The director’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning 2017 hit Get Out follows a family (headed by the Black Panther veterans Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) terrorized by what seem to be evil doppelgängers of themselves," the publication reads.
The trailer was unveiled to the public on Christmas Day, and features a chilling version of Luniz's "I Got 5 On It." Throughout several days, social media was a buzz regarding clues about what may happen in the film. To gear up fans for the release of the film, members of the media were sent gold scissors, similar to the pair seen in the film's promotional poster.
"I dedicated a lot of myself to create a new horror mythology and a new monster," Peele says of the observational power of horror. "I think that monsters and stories about monsters are one of our best ways of getting at deeper truths and facing our fears as a society."
