Rihanna Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary Of ‘ANTI’
Rihanna took a trip down memory lane to mark three years since the release of her eighth studio album, ANTI.
The Grammy winner shared some of the album’s accolades in an Instagram video Tuesday (Jan. 29), complete with song snippets playing behind the visual. “[Three] years old....and this baby is still on the #Billboard200 album chart! Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm,” wrote the “Love on the Brain” singer. “Music was my gateway drug to every other wonderful aspect of creative opportunity that I’ve explored. And I’m grateful for that.”
Fans tend to tease Rihanna for putting so much energy into her makeup empire and seemingly putting her new album on the back-burner, but make no mistake about it: music still has a prominent place in her heart. “Music is, and always will be, my first love and direct connection to your spirit,” the Fenty Beauty founder added in her Instagram caption. “I’m blessed to have y’all! One Love always.”
In a follow-up post, Rihanna unveiled video of the man behind the “iconic” ANTI album cover. The triple-platinum LP received overwhelmingly positive reviews and spawned hits like “B**ch Better Have My Money,” “Needed Me,” “Kiss It Better,” and the Drake-assisted “Work,” but Rihanna wasn't always confident in the project.
“I went through so many emotions and roller coasters of feeling good, loving it, hating it, doubting myself, hating myself. ‘This is awful.’ ‘I lost it.’ ‘Wait, but I do love it still.’ ‘But then—‘ And it’s like, no. Eventually you just need to know who you are,” she explained to Vogue in 2016 when asked about the media and internet pitting her against other female artist such as Beyonce. “You know when something is you. You know when you love it and that’s the only thing that matters. When it comes to everybody else’s thing and their lane and their timing, I’m never doing anything intentional to, like, come after somebody. That will always be my biggest mistake or anybody’s biggest mistake if that’s their intention. So I just focus on my little project. That’s all I can handle. That’s a lot to handle. I can barely handle all of that."
