Jaden Smith's JUST Company To Deploy Water Filtration System In Flint
Smith teamed up with a local church to deploy a new water filtration system.
Jaden Smith is making strides to fix the water crisis in Flint Michigan. Smith's environmental organization, JUST, has teamed up with First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church to bring water to the city, CBS Detroit reports.
The organizations are reportedly working together to deploy a mobile water filtration system also known as "The Water Box." The system will filter and reduce the amount of lead and contaminants in Flint's water systems. JUST collaborated with the church to design the filtration devise.
As previously reported, the Flint water crisis began in 2014, when the drinking water source in the city was changed from Lake Huron to the Detroit River. Due to insufficient treatment, the drinking water was contaminated with high percentages of lead, exposing more than 100,000 residents. A federal state of emergency was declared in January 2016, and Flint residents were instructed to stop using their local water systems.
Some officials have reported that the water has returned to normal levels, but residents and local experts have denied those reports, claiming the water is still not safe to drink. Flint is expected to officially resolve the water crisis in 2019. In the meantime, the new initiative is expected to supply more residents with clean water.
