Hella Sad: 'Insecure' Reportedly Isn't Coming Back Until 2020
Fans of the HBO series Insecure are in for a bit of disappointing news. The Issa Rae-created show will reportedly not be back until next year.
In an interview with Vulture, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the show wouldn’t be returning until 2020. The reason? The show’s creator and star is hella busy.
“We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things,” he said. “Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back to it fresh.”
He’s not wrong- Ms. Rae has had a lot of things on her plate as of late. She stars in Little, which currently sits at No. 2 in the U.S. box office. She also has two projects on the way- The Photograph with LaKeith Stanfield and The Lovebirds with Kumail Nanjiani.
Bloys also believes that when the show returns to television, it can drum up some awards-season love. “It wasn’t exactly random that we ended up [scheduling the show] in the spring, right before Emmys,” he continued, “so that the show should get the Emmy love that it has deserved.”
HBO’s revival of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm will also reportedly return next year.
