Jim Jones Shares How Cam'ron And Jay-Z's Historic B-Sides Performance Came Together

Jay-Z's B-Sides concert was one for the books as legends like Nas joined the billionaire on stage at Webster Hall in April. The biggest shock of all happened to be the moment where Cam'Ron and Jay took the stage to perform the classic, "Welcome To New York City." Thanks to Jim Jones, we have a bit of clarity on how the iconic music moment happened.

Speaking with Rap Radar's Elliott Wilson and Brian "B. Dot" Miller, Jones shared how he was contacted about the show on what he believed to be a simple invite. The call ended up being a proposal for Jones and Cam'Ron to perform some of their biggest hits and an extension for Cam to perform "Welcome To New York City" with Jay.

"I got a call saying JAY about to do a special B-side concert," Jones explained. "And I'm like 'Cool, can I get some tickets? What's up?' I thought that was the call that he was pulling up. They like 'Yo, he wants to perform Welcome to New York City.'"

Much like Memphis Bleek's role on Jay hopping on the "All The Way Up Remix" for Fat Joe, Jones played the middle man and proposed the idea of performing with Jay to Cam.

"I'm just listening and in my mind, I'm like, 'F**k it,'" he said. "I'm just asking a question [to Cam]. He's going to say 'Yeah' or he's going to say 'No'. But in my mind, I'm like...if you know Cam this could...cause some s**t...or...might not even sweat it," he explained.

"Right after I got the call I called him, I said 'Yo, JAY is doing the B-Side concert, right?' [Cam] like 'Yeah.' [And I say] 'He trying to perform "Welcome to New York City" and they wanted me to know if maybe you might just want to perform. You know, I don't know, you know I'm just trying to do what I do.' He like, 'Yeah run it. Let's do it.'"

And the rest is history.

The song originally appeared on Cam's third LP, Come Home With Me which also features a young Juelz Santana on the hook. Cam and Jay's friction dates back to the early aughts, where an interesting six degrees of separation comes into play. The two shared an interview on 106 & Park together back in 2002, in the midst of their squabbles. Cam remained mum during the interview (weirdly no questions were tossed his way until the end) as Jay discussed his coming Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse album and the Best Of Both Worlds tour.

We're glad the awkwardness has subsided and hip-hop heads could enjoy the iconic union. Jones is currently enjoying the positive reception to his latest project, El Capo.

Lizzo Recreates 'Sister Act 2' For Performance At MTV Movie & TV Awards

Lizzo brought us back to the '90s with her recreation of the iconic "Joyful Joyful" scene from Sister Act 2 for her performance at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The Cuz I Love U musician performed her hit "Juice" on a stage solo, as a backstage director told her backup dancers offstage to "get rid" of their church robes, in an homage to the 1993 film starring Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Throughout her energetic performance, the dancers showed their skills, and Lizzo even led the audience in an interpolation of "Oh Happy Day."

Lizzo's major label debut LP was released earlier this year to a positive response. She told Rolling Stone that staying authentic has helped her grow as an artist, and that her album is a reflection of her personality.

“When I have to make decisions, I always choose honesty and I always stay true to myself, because I know at the end of the day that is what’s going to remain,” she reportedly said. “That is what’s going to be the legend: That I was true to myself and that I honored every person by staying truthful to them.”

Watch her wonderful performance above.

DJ Khaled's 'Father Of Ashad' Has Been Certified Gold

DJ Khaled has struck gold with his new album, literally.

The producer's 12th album Father of Ashad has been certified gold, selling an equivalent of 500,000 records. In a press release to VIBE, Khaled's team says the album is the “the fastest full-length record to be minted gold this year”  by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The RIAA also confirmed the news on their site, adding it to its most recent gold and platinum honors for the month of June.

The album is also one of only three full-length projects of 2019 to be certified gold. The others include Tyga's Legendary and Sebastian Yatra's FANTASÍA.

Khaled's streams from the album reportedly exceed half-a-billion, with singles like "You Stay" with J Balvin and Meek Mill as well as "Jealous" with Chris Brown heating up radio.

The producer was a heap of drama last week when his sportsmanship was questioned after he lost the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 to Tyler, The Creator's critically-acclaimed album, IGOR. Both projects were tied to fan merchandise with Tyler selling IGOR lawn signs and Khaled, cases of energy drinks. After Khaled's album debuted on the chart after Tyler's, rumors swirled that he would take legal action against the publication.

While there seems to be no proof of a lawsuit, Khaled did celebrate on social media the album's No. 1 position on the Hip-Hop/R&B Albums chart.
