Discovering that she has been stricken with of Sjogren’s Syndrome, Venus Williams had to exit the US Open after the first round and is uncertain about her future in tennis. The autoimmune disease that causes fatigue and joint pain which will make it difficult for her to play comfortably, however, she seems destined to return to the game.

“I enjoyed playing my first match here,” she said, “and wish I could continue, but right now I am unable to. I am thankful I finally have a diagnosis and am now focused on getting better and returning to the court soon,” she said in a statement released to the press room.

According to The New York Times, Williams closed the book on a Grand Slam season that began with a hip injury and third-round exit at the Australian Open.

With Venus and her little sister Serena being outstanding black female athletes, as well as donning the latest issue of Hamptons magazine, we really hope to see a full recovery!
