With The Rock too busy to return phone calls, and Jackie Chan working hard to be his country's next diplomat, Sylvester Stallone quietly announced the man who will attempt to bring The Expendables back to the big screen for a third time. Rocky Rambo (our playful nickname for Stallone) has been dropping some serious hints about who he wants to take over his director's chair for The Expendables 3. At first, the biggest star in Planet Hollywood toyed with the concept of hiring crazed cinephile Mel Gibson for the gig, but this was not meant to be. After that, Sly began mentioning to anyone who'd listen that he was after a youngblood, someone with the fiery film-making hunger that he had when he wrote, directed and starred in Rocky. Now, according to Ain't It Cool, it looks like he has finally found his man:

The Australian director, who got his start making shorts before segueing into the successful 2010 Western thriller, is Stallone's choice to carry the mantle first shouldered by Rocky Rambo himself and then Simon West for last year's sequel. While Stallone has been mum about what the third installment of the film will actually be about, Sly is hoping to round up his regular cast of stone cold killers such as Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and possibly Chuck Norris.
