Cicely Tyson continues to receive accolades for her role in The Trip to Bountiful.

Last year, Cicely starred in the Broadway play adaptation and although it has since concluded, the star has teamed up with Vanessa Williams—who also starred in the play—to bring the same title to the small screen.

The film will follow Tyson's character Carrie Watts and her journey to return home to Bountiful, Texas before she passes away. Williams stars as her self-absorbed daughter-in-law that has no concerns with the being of Watts. Yesterday, Michelle Obama—who also saw her performance on Broadway—held a White House screening for the now-TV movie and honored the star in the process.

"I had the pleasure of seeing the Broadway play last summer in New York with my girls and we were blown away by the story of persistence and hope and the ties that bind us all together," she said to a room full of onlookers. “But Ms. Tyson’s story is so much more than honors and accolades,” Mrs. Obama said. “It is really about character, and determination and it’s about breaking barriers, not just for herself but for all of us who are blessed by her legacy.”

Keke Palmer and Blair Underwood  will co-star in the TV adaption set to debut on Lifetime, March 8th at 8pm EST.
