The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards (June 18) was chock-ful of viral moments from host Tiffany Haddish's rendition of Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" to Creed actor Michael B. Jordan's sly remark concerning Roseanne Barr.
While accepting the Best Villain award for his role as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, Jordan expressed his disbelief that he garnered the golden popcorn trophy over the vilified sitcom actress. "I'm shocked that I won this award for Best Villain," Jordan began. "I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag." Jordan, who's gearing up for the November arrival of Creed II, added that "it took a lot" for him to get into the head of Killmonger, so winning the award was a satisfactory goal of his.
In late May, Barr's revival of her self-titled ABC show was canceled due to her racist tirade on Twitter. Barr compared former Barack Obama advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape. The controversial actress then blamed it on the sleeping-aid drug, Ambien, but the damage was already done. One of the show's team members, comedian Wanda Sykes, also stepped down from her role as a consulting producer before ABC pulled the sitcom's plug.
Since Barr's fallout with some viewers and the Disney-owned network, rumors to continue the show's airing have increased in practicality. The Hollywood Reporter states the show will focus on the character Darlene Conner, played by Sara Gilbert.
