Conspiracy #12: NYPD police officers planted evidence on Ol’ Dirty Bastard in order to arrest him so often
The Theory: ODB actually made this one up himself. During a 1999 court hearing, he told a judge that police in NYC were making up evidence against him to charge him with crimes. When the judge asked him why he didn’t just move out of the city, he replied, “All my kids live there.”
The Reality: During the exchange, ODB told the judge, “Jesus loves you.” The hearing also resulted in a one-year drug rehab sentence for the troubled rapper. Draw conclusions as you see fit.
Conspiracy #13: Former Def Jam Executive Vice President Shakir Stewart didn’t actually commit suicide
The Theory: Stewart made his living off signing acts like Young Jeezy and Rick Ross. After his untimely death in 2008, some suggested that his ties to gangsters may have ultimately resulted in his death. And others simply refused to believe that he took his own life and said that some sort of foul play had to be involved.
The Reality: Way too complicated to explain here. Read his story in the last issue of VIBE (the one with Drake/Chris Brown on the cover) to find out what really happened to him. Trust us: It’s worth it.
