The cop responsible for fatally shooting Ferguson teen Michael Brown last month has testified before a grand jury, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
A source close to the investigation says that officer Darren Wilson, who has been M.I.A. since the Aug. 9 shooting, testified for almost four hours on Tuesday (Sept. 16). He was said to be “cooperative.”
While the grand jury proceedings have been kept private, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert P. McCulloch says that the case, including transcripts and audio recordings, will be made public if no indictment is made.
“We just want to be more open,” spokesperson Ed Magee told the Associated Press.
Brown, a black 18-year-old, was reportedly the suspect in an attempted convenience store robbery. He was unarmed at the time Wilson, a white male, shot him. The case ignited nationwide protests and several days of unrest.
McCulloch says the investigation is expected to last into mid-October.
