The road to Super Bowl XLVIII wasn’t easy for either team. The Broncos won the AFC Championship game after beating the San Diego Chargers (24-17) in week 19. On Sunday, the Broncos controlled the majority of the game against the New England Patriots. Despite 13 points in the 4th quarter, the Pats still lost 16-26 against Peyton Manning and the rest of the navy blue and orange.
The Seattle Seahawks are living a sort of cinderella dream. They head into Super Bowl XLVIII in coach Peter Carroll’s fourth year with the team, and 25-year-old quarterback Russell Wilson is capping his second year with the team with an NFC Championship. The road to the Super Bowl was a little more difficult for the Seahawks. They beat the New Orleans Saints 23-15, before clinching the NFC Championship title against the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 on Sunday. The Seahawks came back in the second half of the game after being down 10-3 before halftime. The close match was heated until the very end and cornerback Richard Sherman delivered a intense rant after the team’s victory.
“Well, I’m the best corner in the game,” Sherman told ESPN’s Erin Andrews after asked about the final play of the game, where he tipped a pass in the end zone headed for 49ers wideout Michael Crabtree, “and when you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that’s the result you’re going to get. Don’t you ever talk about me.”
Interesting to note, that home field advantage seemed to help out both the Broncos and the Seahawks, as each team won the division championships in their hometowns.
Super Bowl XLVIII takes place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Feb. 2. Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform during the Pepsi halftime show.
