Don’t be fooled by the emotion-fueled tracks he cranks out for Drake; producer Noah “40” Shebib is a hardcore hip-hop head at heart. For every “Marvin’s Room” there’s a “Light Up” with Jay Z or Dipset-inspired “Tuscan Leather” that knocks harder than police with a warrant. So it should be no surprise that the self-proclaimed “Pro Tools god” revealed his desire to record with New York City rap mainstays N.O.R.E., Raekwon and Ghostface in an interview for Drake’s Winter 2014 VIBE cover story. “I want to bring my sound and do what I know I can do with rap,” 40 told VIBE, also revealing his ultimate Cam’ron fandom. “That’s what I get ambitious about at this point.” Noreaga saw the bat signal loud and clear yesterday, returning the nod to via Twitter after a back-and-forth with VIBE’s Mikey Fresh.

Shebib has already collaborated with the Clan on the remix to Drake’s “Wu-Tang Forever,” which he’s allegedly sitting on. But could you imagine a fresh 40 cut specifically tailored for Tony Starks and The Chef? A track with N.O.R.E. would be off the yelzebub! As for everyone else: Don’t get too excited about the prospect of landing a beat by 40. “My ambition is not to get involved with anybody else other than things that I want to work on myself,” the OVO Sound producer clarifies. “When I’m working for my label—Majid, PARTY, Drizzy—that’s it. Those are things that I’m focused on. When it comes to other stuff, if it’s a big project and it makes sense and Drake wants to be involved or wants me to be involved, I’ll be involved with the stop of a finger.” There’s been no public response from Rae or Killa Cam, although prayers to Based God have already been sent up by the VIBE team to make a collabo happen. Stay tuned. —John Kennedy
