Com gave VIBE a bit more insight into the project, which was inspired by the street strife taking place in Chicago and inner cities around America.
“I got to the roots of who I am and where I come from,” the 41-year-old lyricist says. “I feel like this is going to be one of the greatest years for me, musically.”
He says he’s looking forward to working with some young Chi-Town artists on his album, as well as Vince Staples and James Fauntleroy, who, aside from contributing to Common’s previous album The Dreamer/The Believer, has also worked with Beyoncé, J. Cole, Justin Timberlake and Drake.
