Say it loud, Tiara Thomas smokes weed and she’s proud.
Sparking up as a means of musical and visual inspiration, the singer’s favorite pastime also makes for a special fruit snacks-eating experience (more on this later). As part of VIBE’s Weed Week, picked Thomas’ marijuana-influenced brain, with inquiries such as tell-tale signs that she’s high, and how weed enhances her sexual experiences. And yes – the conversation was rather interesting.

My preferred form of consumption:
Honestly, for like the last six months, I’ve been on Backwoods. I like to switch it up depending on what I’m smoking, because there’s a different kind of high. Blunts and Backwoods, they’re different. So with Backwoods, it’s like a really strong high. If you never smoked a Backwood before and you smoke one, you’ll probably feel really dizzy – like really, really heavy. It’s crazy.
My worst high ever:
Edibles are always a really bad experience for me. I’ve never heard an edible story where someone said they had a good experience, because they’re so unpredictable. You don’t know how much THC you’re taking, you don’t know how much is actually in the [edible] that’s made. I’ve made the mistake of eating an entire edible cookie for breakfast one time in L.A. when I was hungry. I got dropped off at LAX, and I told my driver to drop me off at some Chinese airline – I don’t know why – but it was literally like a mile away from my gate, and I had my guitar and my luggage with me. So I’m just sitting there outside the airport, crying and trying to figure out how to get to my gate. I had to be wheelchaired. It was such a terrible high. It was in my whole entire body; I could feel it in my toes. It was pretty scary.
My favorite strain:
I like a lot of hybrids like Blue Dream, OG Kush and Sour Diesel. Right now, I’m smoking San Francisco Valley OG.

How to tell when I’m high:
I’m probably smiling a lot, like really big. (Laughs) And probably laughing like I am right now. My eyes are also probably lower, but I need to start carrying eyedrops because that’s not cool; I don’t want to be walking around with low eyes. I don’t know, I’m just giggling and smiling and just vibing out. If I walk into my manager’s office, I’m not high, and I’m just having a regular conversation, he’s always like “You’re not high, are you?” The people closest to me always know.
My go-to munchy:
I love fruit snacks. I could just keep going and going. I could eat a whole box of fruit snacks, just go crazy. Because when I’m high, I’m really thinking about these fruit snacks when I eating them. I feel like they’re trampolines for my teeth, my teeth are just bouncing off these fruit snacks. And it’s kind of fun, so I can just keep eating them
My favorite place to get high:
In the car – and that’s probably not the smartest thing to do. But I really like looking at scenery, especially if it’s in a dope city, or downtown when there’s something going on, I like to drive around and see things; it’s inspiring. When you’re high in a car and all the scenery’s changing, it’s cool.
My music playlist while I’m high:
Honestly, I like Pandora a lot. Just because I can think of an artist I like, and that’s how I discover a lot of new music. I’ll just have music playing, and I’ll be doing [something], and I’ll hear a song and look at the artist. It just depends on my atmosphere, how I’m feeling at the time, in life, or how I’m feeling about my day. But I do listen differently [when I’m high]. When I listen to music, I enjoy it, but I’m also studying. The first thing that sticks out for me is the lyrics, for some people it’s the beat or the vocals. I get really deep into listening to music; even with the writing. I like to dissect music.

Writing while high:
I think I write most of my music when I’m high. That’s my vibe in the studio, how I get in my zone. I go in the studio, I smoke and I listen to music. I really get into the music, and I really get into my feelings. Then I do a song. Lately, I haven’t tried to do a song sober. I’m sure I can, but it would probably be a different vibe.
Performing while high:
I try not to be super high when I perform because that’s an uncomfortable feeling. When I’m high, I always feel like everyone’s looking at me. If I’m on stage and I know that everyone’s looking at me, and I feel like everyone’s looking at me on top of that, it kind of freaks me out a little bit. I don’t get super high, also for my voice so I might just smoke a little bit, just to the point where I have a slight buzz, and I’m good.
Sleeping while high:
Sometimes, if I have a lot on my mind or if I have a busy day, and I get high, my brain just won’t stop working, and I’ll just keep overthinking stuff. Even when I’m laying down and my eyes are closed, I’m still not all the way sleep. I’m high, so I’m alert. When I get high, I don’t like to go to sleep, because that’s just wasting a high. I don’t get high to go to sleep, I get high for the experience. So a lot of the times when I get high, I’ll be thinking about stuff and not be able to go to sleep. But other times – I like Blue Dream – it makes me feel calm. If I have a cool day, and I’m just relaxing, I’m smoke and watch a movie and go to sleep. And it’ll be really peaceful.
Sex while high:
Sex when you’re high is really good. It’s good when you’re not high too, but when you’re high, you’re already in a feel-good place, you know? So it’s just like Planet Pleasant when you’re high. I like having sex while high.
My high-dol:
I like Snoop. He’s been one of the people to totally get away with it, though. He’s like, making references to blunts on ESPN. And only Snoop can do that. He’s funny, he’s been in the game for a long time. I fuck with Snoop.
