Amara La Negra can now put children’s book author on her lengthy resume. The singer and Love & Hip Hop Miami break out star is releasing a book with three stories of empowerment in the kids’ book titled Amarita’s Way.
The Dominican Miami bred artist shared the news on her Instagram account and revealed that the project is in partnership with publishing house McBride Stories. According to a press release sent to Remezcla, the book will promote, “beauty in self-love, confidence, and the true bond between a mother and daughter.” With Amara’s close relationship with her mother, we can only infer that the book is inspired by her own life experiences.
“This is only the beginning of what I hope to expand in our future leaders, philanthropist[s], and entertainers of our world. I want them to believe in their stride, their uniqueness and talents that the world will soon come to embrace,” she continued.
Upon entering the mainstream entertainment world on LHHM, Amara brought a conversation about the complexities of being an Afro-Latina, and how her identity is conflicting in Latin America and the U.S. For her it was also a no-brainer to unapologetically always represent herself.
In 2015 she told VIBE, ““One of the reasons I’m so rebellious and I wear my hair from my head attached to my body, is because for many years I was told this bulls–t lie that in order to be beautiful, I had to have straight hair, because my hair was too ‘unmanageable’,” she said. “Hello! I’m black. Yes, I’m going to have nappy and kinky hair. But that’s part of what makes me beautiful. And it took me years to know and realize that. I’m straightening and burning my hair for what? To please who?”
Amarita’s Way is still seemingly in production with a soon-to-be announced release date.
