On the evening of January 12, 2016, President Barack Obama gave his final State of the Union address. Topics he discussed ranged from global warming, to international terrorism, to domestic gun violence, to student debt, to higher education. The POTUS even touched on our nation’s relationship with Latin America, calling for the lifting of the Cuban embargo.
“Fifty years of isolating Cuba had failed to promote democracy, setting us back in Latin America,” said Obama on Tuesday night. “That’s why we restored diplomatic relations, opened the door to travel and commerce, and positioned ourselves to improve the lives of the Cuban people,” Obama said on Tuesday. “You want to consolidate our leadership and credibility in the hemisphere? Recognize that the Cold War is over. Lift the embargo.”
And while Obama vocally expressed his support of the Cuban people, the First Lady of the United States made quite a statement as she entered her box in the House of Representatives gallery, wearing a dashing canary dress by Cuban-American designer Narciso Rodriguez. The New Jersey native is the same designer who exclusively draped FLOTUS on election night in 2008.
Grand opening, grand closing…
