Never has a woman with a mustache and unibrow been so revered, yet Frida Kahlo is the feminist revolutionary that every Latinx mujerista looks up to, and has at least once tried to emulate. Rapper/singer Becky G – proudly hailing from Inglewood, California – is no different.
“My culture has always influenced me as an artist in everything that I do. Collaborating with @emiliosanchez on this photoshoot was so fun and meaningful,” captioned Becky under an image from her new project inspired by the late Mexican painter. “So I recreated it my own way…”
Becky adds her own steez (like door knocker earrings and bandana paraphernalia) to famous historical self-portraits, including Frida’s “Self Portrait with Monkey” and “Autorretrato.” Check ’em out!
